Position: GCSE Teacher (Full-Time/Part-Time)

Location: Sadili Oval Homeschool GCSE Facility, Lang'ata, Nairobi

Reports to: Academic Coordinator / Centre Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking a versatile and dedicated GCSE Teacher to deliver engaging and effective instruction across two or more GCSE subjects. The ideal candidate is not just an expert in their field but also a mentor who can build strong relationships with students in a smaller-class setting. You will be responsible for planning lessons, tracking student progress, and preparing students for success in their final GCSE examinations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching & Instruction:
    • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons for GCSE classes in your subject specialisms (e.g., Combined Science and Mathematics, or English Language and History, etc.).
    • Employ a variety of teaching strategies to cater to different learning styles and abilities within a mixed-ability homeschool environment.
    • Foster a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that encourages student participation and inquiry.
    • Integrate digital tools and online resources to enhance learning.
  • Curriculum & Assessment:
    • Develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with the specified GCSE exam board curricula (e.g., Cambridge CAIE, Edexcel).
    • Set and mark regular formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
    • Provide timely, constructive, and detailed feedback to students to help them improve.
    • Prepare students for all aspects of their exams, including practical components where required (e.g., Science practicals).
  • Student Support & Pastoral Care:
    • Act as a mentor and form tutor to a small group of students, monitoring their overall well-being and academic progress.
    • Communicate effectively and build strong, professional relationships with parents/guardians through regular updates, meetings, and progress reports.
    • Identify students who need extra support and implement strategies to help them achieve their target grades.
  • Operational & Administrative:
    • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and grades.
    • Participate in faculty meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development sessions.
    • Contribute to the development of the centre’s teaching resources and learning environment.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Education or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject plus a Postgraduate Teaching Certificate (PGCE) or equivalent.
  • Must be TSC registered (Teachers Service Commission) or meet the requirements for registration.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience teaching GCSE/IGCSE curriculum, with a proven track record of excellent student results.
  • Demonstrable ability to teach at least two core GCSE subjects effectively. Highly desirable subject combinations include:
    • Mathematics and Physics
    • Biology and Chemistry
    • English Language and Literature or History
    • Business Studies and Economics/ICT
  • In-depth knowledge of the specifications and assessment criteria of at least one major GCSE exam board (e.g., Cambridge CAIE, Pearson Edexcel).
